Bayala Game Lodge boasts an excellent location in the picturesque Ubombo Mountains of KwaZulu-Natal and offers an unforgettable experience on the Elephant Coast. Located between the towns of Hluhluwe and Mkuze, Bayala Game Lodge is a convenient weekend getaway for family and friends. The vast Bayala Wilderness spans 12,000 hectares of a 30,000-hectare conservation area and provides fantastic wildlife viewing opportunities. Those opting to visit Bayala Game Lodge can expect to see an abundance of wildlife and birdlife and choose from a variety of safari activities on site.
Bayala is located in the southern portion of the Munyawana Game Reserve, which includes Phinda Private Game Reserve and Zuka Private Game Reserve and is one of KwaZulu-Natal’s best private game reserve destinations. This immensely diversified conservation area has about 30,000 hectares of unspoilt wilderness and is bordered by the iSimangaliso Wetland Park, a world heritage site.
Bayala Game Lodge and Wilderness offers an outstanding wildlife experience for safari-goers. Those visiting can admire the vast landscapes home to an abundance of free-roaming wildlife including lions, elephants, leopards, buffalos, and rhinos. During a safari activity, guests can also see the Little Five. Cheetahs, zebras, and giraffes are also among the incredible variety of wildlife here.
Bayala is a year-round destination. However, the best time to visit for wildlife viewing is during the dry winter months between May and September. Winter in this part of South Africa is dry, which means the vegetation thins out and wildlife viewing is at its prime.
Bayala Game Lodge is the perfect destination for a weekend safari. For a traditional safari experience, guests can enjoy morning and afternoon guided game drives, both of which provide excellent wildlife viewing. For the more adventurous at heart, guided bush walks offer the opportunity to get up close to the wilderness, guided by a trained professional with vast knowledge of their surroundings. For something light-hearted, guests can pamper themselves during a day spent at the on-site spa, while those with a love for conservation can join a team of experts in the de-horning of a rhino as part of a continuing operation to combat poaching.
Other activities in the area include horseback riding, fishing, birdwatching, boat cruises, and elephant tours.
Bayala Game Lodge boasts excellent accommodation—with 48 rooms available, each with a double bed or twin beds, as well as en-suite bathrooms. Every room features a fan or air conditioning, tea/coffee-making facilities, as well as guest amenities, hairdryers, and linen and towels.
On-site facilities include a curio shop, a guest lounge for relaxing after an action-packed day, as well as a swimming pool for a refreshing dip during the warm months. Wi-Fi is available, and a babysitting service can be arranged. Rates include dinner, bed, breakfast and one game drive per night.
