This impressive game farm is defined by lush vegetation, a 12-acre dam, and stunning bushveld, all home to over 22 wildlife species and 217 bird species. The exclusivity of Buffelsdrift means that visitors can enjoy a unique safari experience, far from the maddening crowds of national parks. Local attractions around the game farm include the glittering Cango Caves, the majestic Swartberg Mountain range, numerous rivers, streams, and thundering waterfalls.
The nearest airport to Oudtshoorn is in George, approximately 65 kilometres away. This exclusive game farm offers a truly authentic wildlife experience—a home for over 22 wildlife species and 217 bird species. The farm is a sanctuary for three orphaned elephants, who were left behind due to poaching. The elephants, named Jabari, Bulelo, and Malaika, are well cared for and protected on the farm—a good life they might not have had if the lodge had not intervened.
Among other wildlife, safari-goers can expect to spot the resident meerkats, hippo, giraffes, eland, buffalo, zebras, and springbok. Furthermore, Buffelsdrift is home to three relocated lion cubs—two females and one male—as well as South African cheetahs that have adapted well to their new environment over the last two years. Lastly, the African fish eagle tends to make an appearance while snatching up its daily meal from the dam.
Buffelsdrift Game Lodge is a year-round destination in South Africa. There are elephant experiences available, which include meeting, feeding, walking, and brushing these three gentle giants. For the early birds, the Meerkat Safari offers a unique experience. At dawn, safari-goers can witness these habituated creatures in their natural habitats, as they emerge from their cosy homes to soak up the sun before meandering out for the day.
The Lion Safari experience on offer allows visitors to witness three wild lion cubs, as they play, taunt each other, and explore their new home. The lion cubs were born in captivity and relocated to Buffelsdrift in early 2020. Safari-goers will be transferred to the lion enclosure and can admire the incredible predators from an elevated viewpoint, providing great photo opportunities.
