Buffelsfontein Game Reserve | South Africa | Wild Safari Guide

Buffelsfontein Game and Nature Reserve boasts an excellent location in the heart of the West Coast in South Africa and provides the perfect destination for a weekend getaway. The family-owned game reserve spans approximately 4,000 acres and offers magnificent insight into the stunning natural surroundings of the area. Buffelsfontein started in 1993 as a family getaway spot. However, there was a devasting fire in 2000, leaving very little standing in its wake. The owner started anew, and in 2002, Buffelsfontein opened to the local and international safari and traveller market.

The game reserve, nestled on the R27, is only an hour away from Cape Town, making it the perfect location for a weekend safari escape from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Amazing Game Drive Experience

5/ 5

Our safari experience at Buffelsfontein was amazing. We saw numerous wildlife species like their two resident rhinos, as well as a family of giraffes. There were zebras, lions, antelope, springbok, and a cute meerkat that loves interacting with people. The staff were super friendly and knowledgeable and the location is so convenient, being close to Cape Town. Highly recommend!

Buffelsfontein Game Reserve offers a fantastic location close to Cape Town. The safari destination spans about 4,000 acres and is home to an abundance of wildlife. Safari-goers to the game reserve can expect to spot four of Africa’s Big Five, including the lion, the Cape buffalo, the leopard, and the white rhino. Other animals at the reserve include giraffes, zebras, blue wildebeest, red hartebeest, and kudu, all adding to the incredible experience at Buffelsfontein.

The best time to visit Buffelsfontein Game Reserve is between January and May and again from August to December. During these months, the temperatures are warm, and there is little rainfall—meaning vegetation is thinner, making it easier to spot wildlife.

Buffelsfontein Game Reserve offers an excellent variety of safari activities to suit any discerning traveller. The guided game drives on offer are amazing, and there are two options available for guests—a full guided game drive, which is about three hours or so, and a half guided game drive, which is about 90 minutes. Those opting for a safari of this nature can marvel at the wonders of African wildlife from the comfort of a specially-adapted 4WD vehicle. The local guides and trackers have a vast knowledge of the fauna and flora in their area, with countless hours spent crisscrossing the landscape.

For the intrepid at heart, Buffelsfontein offers a Bike and Saddle safari option, providing an exhilarating way to explore the reserve and get up close and personal with its residents. Furthermore, the game reserve has a restaurant and bar that offers the ideal reprieve from a day spent in the wild.

Buffelsfontein Game Reserve offers a range of accommodation options to suit any discerning traveller. For an all-inclusive stay, guests can book a luxury cottage with a full-board package, while those seeking a self-catering option can opt for the basic chalet. Group stays are welcome as there is a guesthouse that sleeps up to 20 guests, ideal for wedding parties or conference groups. Additionally, guests who enjoy a more rustic experience can book a tent in the bush camp.
