Balule Nature Reserve boasts an abundance of wildlife thanks to its fenceless borders with the flagship of South Africa—the famous Kruger National Park. Those opting to stay at Bundox Safari Lodge can expect to spot the iconic Big Five during a game drive, a highlight of this incredible safari holiday destination. The Olifants River carves through Balule Nature Reserve and attracts many wildlife species in the area. Aside from the Big Five, there are hyenas, waterbucks, giraffes, an impressive hippo population, civets, honey badgers, and some of the members of the Shy Five.

For the bird watchers, the nature reserve has recorded over 250 species of birds, including numerous waders, as well as raptors such as eagles.

The best time to visit is during the dry winter months—from May to September. Generally, the dry months are ideal because the vegetation is thinner, and the animals tend to gather around the available water resources, making it great for wildlife viewing.
