Nestled in the rugged Cederberg Mountains, Bushmans Kloof Wilderness Reserve offers a unique experience in the great outdoors of South Africa. Travellers can escape the hustle and bustle of the city and get back in touch with nature when they stay at this stunning retreat. The family-owned reserve spans approximately 18,000 acres of private land and offers five-star luxury accommodation and an array of fun activities. The fynbos vegetation falls under the Cape Floral Region, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to incredible biodiversity. Highlights of staying here include the sleepy village of Paternoster, pristine sandy beaches, and a fascinating nature reserve. The scenic drive from Cape Town is approximately three hours by car. Bushmans Kloof can also accommodate air transfers at their private Bushmans Kloof International airstrip.
Bushmans Kloof Wilderness Reserve has poured massive amounts of resources into reintroducing species into the surrounding reserve. From one of the largest private herds of Cape Mountain zebras and Red Hartebeest and Grey Rhebok to the bat-eared fox, African wildcat and the Cape Clawless otter, there’s an array of wildlife to spot when visiting Bushmans Kloof. For the birding enthusiasts, there are more than 150 bird species recorded on the reserve. From lesser-known endemic species to iconic birds of prey, this is a wonderful birding oasis.
Bushmans Kloof is a stunning destination to visit throughout the year. Between July and October, the carpet of Cape wildflowers in the area is a sight to behold. Wildlife tends to disperse during this season; however, birding is excellent. Wildlife is difficult to spot during the rainy season, so the warm and dry months are better for wildlife viewing.
With 18,000 acres of stunning Cederberg wilderness, guests visiting Bushmans Kloof can enjoy an array of outdoor activities. For the intrepid at heart, the guided hiking trails are led by experienced rangers and provide fantastic insight into the fauna and flora of the reserve. Daily guided game drives and safari walks offer a chance to spot the wildlife, while the gravel tracks are excellent for those who love mountain biking. Pristine mountain pools will tempt guests to take a swim on hot summer days, and those with a keen interest in fishing can cast a line for wily Clanwilliam Yellowfish.
Bushmans Kloof Wilderness Reserve and Retreat boasts 14 spacious rooms, two suites, and two villas. The stunning accommodations are nestled among lush gardens and offer five-star luxury to any discerning guest. Each room celebrates the history and culture of the Cape Floral Region, and the private terraces deliver outstanding wilderness views.
