Dombeya Game Reserve is nestled in central eSwatini and provides a tranquil getaway destination. Surrounded by rolling hills and the Mliba Mountain in the distance, safari-goers to this part of the country can enjoy the diverse sights and sounds of the landscape. Although the Big Five isn’t present in the game reserve, the wildlife that calls Dombeya home is diverse. From giraffes and kudu to Wildebeest and jackals, it is a lovely place for visitors to explore independently. Those with a love for birds can expect to spot a variety of species. With a recorded 233 bird species, the reserve is constantly expanding, drawing many wildlife and nature enthusiasts to this part of the country.  Dombeya Game Reserve is approximately 22 kilometres from the centre of Manzini, while the nearest airport is about 120 kilometres away—Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport.

Safari-goers opting to visit Dombeya will enjoy a diverse wildlife experience. Although the famous Big Five isn’t present, numerous species offer a fantastic wildlife experience. The common calls of the hyenas and jackals are thrilling, while kudu and giraffes make for excellent sightings. For the birding enthusiasts, there are 233 species recorded in the reserve, and visitors should be on the lookout for pink-throated twinspots, the grey waxbill, and several species of migratory Cuckoos.

The best time to visit is during the dry winter months, from April to September, when temperatures are pleasant during the day but cool at night. The summer months between October and March are hot and humid, with heavy rains.

Safari goers can choose from an array of things to do when visiting Dombeya Game Reserve. There is a network of roads that are ideal for self-guided game drives, a great way to experience the wildlife up close and stop for picnics along the way. For those who enjoy walking, the reserve features 10 kilometres of nature trails that carve through the landscape and provide incredible opportunities to spot resident wildlife. Birdwatching is excellent here and best at dawn and dusk.

Dombeya Game Reserve boasts two guest lodges on-site, both of which are self-catering. Each lodge has two bedrooms and two ensuite bathrooms and can accommodate up to four adults. Inside, there is a fully-equipped kitchen and plenty of seating, while outdoors, guests can fire up the BBQ or enjoy a refreshing dip in the private swimming pool.
