Idube Game Reserve is part of South Africa’s larger Sabi Sand Game Reserve and shares open borders with the world-famous Kruger National Park. This setup provides a truly authentic wilderness experience. The emphasis is on seeing the Big Five, and the wildlife viewing is excellent. All of the big cats, including the elusive leopard, are easily noticeable. Idube’s terrain is densely forested woodland savannah, but because of the ability to drive off-road and the presence of skilled guides and trackers, this rarely has an impact on a safari experience.
The Big Five and cheetahs, as well as most other large safari animals, are easily spotted during a safari at Idube Game Reserve. This is one of the best places to see the elusive leopard, as they are at ease throughout Sabi Sands. Different antelope species are always present but overlooked because of the resident flagship species here. Night drives are excellent for spotting nocturnal animals like the lesser galago and the large-spotted genet. Furthermore, Sabi Sands is an excellent birding destination, with over 300 bird species recorded. Guides are knowledgeable about birds, so twitchers should come prepared to see a sky full of wonder. Birders will enjoy the combination of walking and driving safaris in the private reserve.
Winter, also known as the low season, is the best time to visit Idube Game Reserve. The dry season lasts from May to September and animals are easy to spot during this time because the foliage thins out and they congregate around rivers and waterholes. September is a beautiful month to visit. It is also the warmest month of the year.
Idube Game Reserve guests can enjoy guided game drives twice a day, morning and late afternoon. On safari, the professional guides and trackers share their knowledge of the local fauna and flora in the reserve. They pride themselves on being able to identify tracks and follow them, which always makes for the best possible safari experience. During a game drive or a bush walk, guests get close to lions, elephants and other big game. For something different, guests can go for a short guided bush walk after breakfast. This provides the perfect opportunity to spot some of the smaller wildlife on foot.
Idube Game Reserve boasts a luxury lodge on site. The recently renovated lodge features a beautiful indoor-outdoor gazebo where guests can relax and unwind after an action-packed day. The lodge offers a pool area, a fire pit, a gazebo, and a fully-stocked bar. Each room has a plush bed and its own porch or deck with views.
