KaMsholo Bushveld Safaris is located in the heart of the Lowveld of Swaziland, at the foot of the Lebombo Mountain range, and offers a unique wildlife experience. The reserve protects a beautiful tract of 4,000 hectares of acacia savannah set against a backdrop of craggy Lubombos. These wild hills are home to some unusual habitats, as well as flora and fauna that can be found nowhere else in the country. KaMsholo is easily accessible from Johannesburg and Durban, making it a convenient spot for a weekend or week-long getaway with a significant other or the whole family.
The reserve at KaMsholo Bushveld Safaris includes a wonderful array of giraffes, zebra, blue wildebeest, greater kudu, nyala, impala, common reedbuck, common duiker, and warthog, among other animals. There are some large pythons among the rich reptile fauna, as well as crocodiles in the large dam to the south, where catch and release fishing is permitted. Birders will be enthralled by the more than 300 species recorded in the area—the raptors are particularly impressive. Furthermore, at KaMsholo, safari-goers can spot Hornbills, Crested Guineafowl, Rollers, Kingfishers, Ostriches, Vultures, Bee-Eaters, and many other birds.
Swaziland and its parks and reserves are year-round destinations, although the ideal time to visit if you want to view animals is during the dry winter months of May to September. Summer, which is between October and April, is hot and humid, but the scenery is lush and green, with plenty of birds and local culture to enjoy.
Safari-goers visiting KaMsholo Bushveld Safaris can enjoy traditional guided game drives in a 4WD vehicle. Popular game viewing times are in the morning and the late afternoon, both of which capture the golden hours. For those who prefer a more up-close experience, there are fantastic guided walks through the bush and focus more on birding and nature. Other activities available include horseback riding, pony rides, self-drive options, and fishing.
Tinsele Rest Camp, located two kilometres from the restaurant and at the foot of the Lebombo Mountains, offers a calm overnight escape, which is ideal for families, small parties, nature lovers, and birders. Budget travellers can stay at the Bushveld Backpackers near the main welcome area, while business travellers and conference guests can stay at the Bhekilanga Guesthouse in Nsoko Village, which is also managed by KaMsholo.
