Knysna Elephant Park is a nature reserve in South Africa, nestled halfway between Knysna and Plettenberg Bay, making it an ideal stopover or day trip destination. The Park offers more than just elephants. It also includes beautiful Outeniqua Mountain views, Cape Fynbos, and indigenous forest. Elephant Lodge, which is built around and overlooks the Elephant’s sleeping quarters, offers spacious and luxurious accommodations.
This is a one-of-a-kind experience, where guests can enjoy extremely unique elephant encounters with easy access to exciting Garden Route sites nearby. Both Plettenberg Bay and Knysna are easily accessible from the Knysna Elephant Park—located 22 kilometres south of Knysna and 10 kilometres north of Plettenberg Bay. In Knysna and Plettenberg Bay, new transportation services have just been launched.
The Knysna Elephant Park was South Africa's first facility for housing and caring for orphaned African elephants. More than forty elephants have been cared for and raised at the park over the last two decades. Orphaned calves and elephants saved from culls are among the animals that have lived here. Depending on their personalities, bonds with other animals, and other needs, some have become part of the resident herd, while others have been sent to different reserves and facilities in the Western and Eastern Cape.
The current herd has eight members, making it the country's largest domesticated matriarchal herd. Guests can get up close and personal with the resident elephants, on elephant terms, thanks to the Park’s excellent management method. Guests to the Park can admire the elephants' awe-inspiring presence while still giving them the space and freedom to do as they please through responsible and informative encounters.
The weather in Knysna is nice throughout the year, making it ideal for vacation planning. Rain is predicted virtually the entire year, according to Knysna tourist info, but the ideal time to visit is between February and April.
A safari at the Knysna Elephant Park is a Garden Route must-do for both young and old. Visitors can get married in a unique setting, meet, feed, and engage with elephants, walk alongside them, or experience sunrise and sunset excursions with a breathtaking backdrop. The serene natural surroundings, which include pristine woods, Cape Fynbos, and mountain views, allow visitors to unwind.
Elephant Lodge is a family-friendly establishment. The accommodation is exceptionally comfortable, with en-suite bathrooms and elephant motifs throughout. Luxury rooms, standard rooms, and a family unit are among the room types available. The extraordinary Elephant Lodge, which is housed within the elephant sleeping quarters, provides guests with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to spend the night with the herd of African elephants. Guests can enjoy an "elephant sleepover" in one of the unique accommodations overlooking the boma, or unwind in the communal lounge while watching the elephants nap.
