Mombo Concession | Botswana | Wild Safari Guide

The Mombo Concession is located within Moremi Game Reserve in Botswana and is arguably the best big game viewing area in all of Southern Africa. Spanning 111,000 acres in the central Okavango Delta, the Mombo Concession is known as “the Place of Plenty,” and home to impressive concentrations of the famous Big Five in one of the most beautiful parts of the continent. The landscape is made up of large wetland areas with papyrus-lined channels, lagoons and islands, with all kinds of habitats, as well as grassland, thorn scrub and mopane woodland. The area boasts large and consistent numbers of plains game, as well as good predator numbers— and is one of the best places in Botswana to see rhinos.

Known as “the Place of Plenty,” the Mombo Concession is home to massive concentrations of plains game supporting equally large populations of predators. Wildlife includes all the big cats, of which lion sightings are frequent. Leopards, spotted hyaenas, large herds of buffalo, elephants, giraffes, blue wildebeest, and Burchell’s zebra are found in abundance, while cheetahs and the elusive wild dog are sometimes spotted in the area. Furthermore, Mombo Concession is one of the best places to see black and white rhinos in Botswana.

Mombo Concession is a great year-round destination, but the best time for wildlife viewing is during the dry months. From June to October, the water recedes, and the climate is dry, meaning wildlife seek out watering holes to stay cool and hydrated, so they are easier to spot. The wet months, from January to March, are less ideal because some areas become inaccessible.

Visiting The Mombo Concession means exceptional game-viewing opportunities. Nestled within Moremi Game Reserve and occupying a large part of the Okavango Delta, safari-goers can enjoy world-class safari activities. From guided game drives where visitors can spot big cats and black and white rhinos to amazing mokoro safaris on the glistening, Lilly-strewn waters. Bird watchers are also in for a treat as the area is well known for its bird populations.

The Mombo Concession features two camps with epic views over the landscape. From supremely spacious safari tents with wooden walkways to well-stocked minibars, a restaurant, and concierge services, the camps combine all the creature comforts of home with the five-star amenities of a city hotel.
