Ndlovumzi Nature Reserve is situated in the Limpopo area in South Africa and offers a beautiful and tranquil getaway. Ndlovumzi spans 1000 hectares and is located 30km outside the town of Hoedspruit. This wildlife reserve offers magnificent views over the Drakensberg Mountains and is characterized by a savanna biome. Large Sycamore Fig, Jackal Berry, Marula, and Tamboti trees line the Olifants River’s edge. These provide a haven for birds while also providing welcome shade during the hot summer months. The reserve’s central and southern areas are hilly, with acacia trees interspersed with thickets, grassland, and very old Leadwood trees.
Ndlovumzi Nature Reserve offers a tranquil wildlife experience and is home to a wealth of wildlife species, as well as over 300 birds, depending on the season. Wildlife species found in the reserve include waterbuck, kudu, impala, zebras, giraffes, wildebeest, bushbuck and other antelope species. Numerous bird species abound for the avid birder, including a resident pair of Wahlbergs and African Hawk Eagles, both of which breed annually on the reserve when conditions are right. Those who are intrigued by nocturnal species will be delighted to hear that the reserve is home to the civet cat, porcupines, and the elusive caracal.
Ndlovumzi is located in Limpopo, which has pleasant weather most of the year. Summers are hot to extremely hot, with brief afternoon thunderstorms.
