Ulusaba Game Reserve is a private reserve located in the greater Sabi Sand Game Reserve and shares fenceless borders with the acclaimed Kruger National Park. Owned by Sir Richard Branson, Ulusaba offers a fantastic wildlife experience with five-start lodges and facilities. The 33,000-acre comprises of woodland savannah, with thick foliage that seldom interferes with wildlife viewing. The famous Big Five are present, and all Big Cats are commonly spotting, including the elusive leopard. Those flying to Ulusaba can catch an 80-minute flight from Johannesburg or a 30-minute flight from Nelspruit. The game reserve can also be reached by road, which takes approximately two and a half hours from Nelspruit.
Ulusaba Game Reserve offers excellent wildlife viewing opportunities. The open borders with the greater Kruger National Park mean wildlife roam in and out and are easily spotted. The famous Big Five are present and include the elusive leopard, lions, elephants, the Cape buffalo, and rhinos. The Little Five are harder to spot but still present within the reserve, making for a worthwhile safari experience. Other wildlife species commonly spotted include baboons, vervet monkeys, warthogs, and dwarf mongoose.
The best time to visit is during winter—also considered the dry season, which lasts from May to September. Wildlife is easy to spot during the dry months as the foliage thins out and the animals gather around rivers and waterholes.
From safari walks to guided game drives and relaxing spa treatments, there is no shortage of things to do in Ulusaba Game Reserve.
