Kampala – Chimpanzee Trekking Area.
Departing vibrant Kampala this morning, we head south, crossing the Equator and passing through a landscape of fertile hills and dense forests. Along the way, look out for herds of Ankole cattle, famous for their striking, curved horns. Upon arrival, the rest of the day is free for you to relax, take a stroll through the surrounding countryside, and soak up the atmosphere of the local community.

Please note: A pre-departure meeting is held at 18:00 the evening before the tour starts. The tour officially departs at 08:00 on Day 1, so please arrive in Kampala the day before.

Kalinzu Forest or Kyambura Gorge.
Today, we venture into the forest on a thrilling trek in search of wild chimpanzees. Unlike gorillas, chimpanzees spend most of their time high in the forest canopy, so prepare for an exciting experience, gazing into the treetops to spot our closest living relatives in their natural habitat.

Please note: Chimpanzee trekking permits are issued in small groups. Depending on our group size, some members may trek on the afternoon of Day 1, the morning or afternoon of Day 2, or the morning of Day 3.

Chimpanzee Trekking Area – Lake Bunyonyi.
On Day 3, we travel to the breathtaking Lake Bunyonyi, known for its lush green hills and dotted with numerous scenic islands. Over the next three days, everyone in the group will embark on their unforgettable gorilla trek. To minimise disturbance to these endangered creatures, we split into smaller groups, trekking on different days.

On the day of your trek, we meet our local guide and tracker early in the morning. Trekking through dense, sometimes rugged rainforest terrain, we search for a family of mountain gorillas. While the hike can be challenging, the moment you encounter a group of gorillas in the wild will be a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Once located, you will have around an hour to quietly observe these magnificent creatures from a safe distance. Listen carefully to your guide’s instructions to ensure both your safety and the well-being of the gorillas. Photography without flash is permitted.

Mountain gorillas remain one of the most endangered species, but thanks to ongoing conservation efforts, their numbers have grown in recent years. Keep a special lookout for the dominant silverback and playful youngsters.

After your trek, return to Lake Bunyonyi to relax and reflect. On non-trekking days, you are free to enjoy optional activities like a boat trip to the lake’s islands, birdwatching, canoeing, or visiting local villages.

Lake Bunyonyi – Kampala.
This morning, we leave the serene beauty of Lake Bunyonyi and begin our journey back to Kampala, skirting the northern edge of Lake Victoria. After arriving in the capital, you’ll have free time to explore the city, mingle with locals, or try some traditional Ugandan dishes.

Kampala – Jinja.
Today we take a short drive to Jinja, where Lake Victoria gives birth to the mighty River Nile. Our camp is located right beside the riverbank, providing the perfect base for adventure. Spend the afternoon enjoying optional activities such as white-water rafting, quad biking, Nile cruises, fishing, or mountain biking. You can also choose to give back to the community by assisting with a local school initiative—help with painting, plastering, or other improvements.

Today is yours to enjoy at leisure. Take part in more of the optional activities on offer, explore the riverside trails, or simply relax at camp and watch life unfold along the Nile.
