Our Victoria Falls Travel Guide for All
Have you been dreaming of seeing Vic Falls in Africa? Well, you’re in luck. We have put together an in-depth Victoria Falls travel guide, providing you with all the information you need to plan your Victoria Falls holiday.
The most stunning sight in Africa has to be the mighty Victoria Falls. This massive curtain of water, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, is located on the boundary between Zimbabwe and Zambia, where the impressive Zambezi River plunges 108 meters into a tight canyon, forming a mile-wide cascade that draws crowds from near and far.
A journey to Victoria Falls is a must-do for everyone visiting Southern Africa. The falls may be seen from both the Zambian and Zimbabwean sides. Livingstone is the name of the town on the Zambian side, and Victoria Falls is the name of the town on the Zimbabwean side. Both places are safe and popular tourist attractions with well-developed infrastructure and a wide range of accommodation options to choose from.

The Zambian side of the Zambezi River offers a plethora of accommodation options and outdoor activities, while the Zimbabwean side boasts spectacular views of the Main Falls. At Wild Safari Guide, we recommend allotting enough time to see both sides of the Falls, regardless of which country you choose to visit.
Getting there
Victoria Falls Travel Guide
Victoria Falls and Livingstone are both around a two-hour flight away from Johannesburg. Because the flights only leave in the morning, you might need to stay in Johannesburg for one night before going to Vic Falls—depending on whether you’re arriving from somewhere else in the country or from abroad.
Livingstone Airport (Zambia): The best way to get to Livingstone is to fly into OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, but there is also a scheduled route from Lusaka. A minibus or a 4WD will transport you to your accommodation.
Victoria Falls Airport (Zimbabwe): This airport is served by regular flights from Johannesburg and is also on the path of a convenient Windhoek/Maun flight. Because Victoria Falls is only 70 kilometres from the Botswana border, intrepid travellers can also fly from the Okavango Delta or Maun Airport to Kasane Airport and then drive to the Falls.

Best Time to Visit Victoria Falls
Victoria Falls Travel Guide
The months from February to May are the best for seeing the magnificent Falls. This is when the water level is at its highest after the region’s summer rainfall. The Falls are about double the height of Niagara Falls in North America, and with a loud roar, the water’s sheer force propels a column of spray high into the air—making for some epic sights to see.
Important Information
Money
The US Dollar is the most recognized currency in Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe. Guests visiting the Falls should bring cash in US dollars, and ideally in small denominations. Due to the frequent shortage of cash, it’s difficult to get change if you have a $100 bill. However, most hotels and restaurants accept Visa credit cards. The South African Rand (ZAR) is widely recognised here as well. Additionally, you’ll need Zambian Kwacha if you’re staying on the Zambian side, though US Dollars are generally accepted. At the airport, you can exchange money.
Visas
Be aware of the fees of obtaining a visa to enter Zimbabwe or Zambia. Please inquire for more information, as these prices are subject to change at any time. The cost of a visa varies greatly depending on your place of origin, and it can be paid at the border in USD. Check if you’ll require a multiple-entry visa if you’ll be travelling both Zambia and Zimbabwe, as well as Botswana. Although the new Kaza Univisa is a fantastic choice, stickers are not always available.
Kid-Friendly
Victoria Falls is an excellent choice for a family vacation as there’s plenty to keep everyone entertained, as well as a wide range of kid-friendly accommodation options—from top resorts to private two, three or four-bedroom villas.
